The Radisson SAS hotel
is 17km out of the nearest 'town' of Naam Bay. Sharm el Sheik is an area
rather than a town although there is a Sharm Old Town. There is little Egyptian
culture here - the Sinai area consists of sea, desert and rocky mountains.
The desert starts immediately from the beach except where there are hotels.
The coral reef extends all the way down the coast and comes almost onto
the beach. Several hotels (such as ours) have piers which stretch across
the reef to the edge so you can go diving from the end of it. |
 |
This is the beach attached
to our hotel - the pier I was standing on in the shot above can be seen
in the background. |
 |
The room in
the hotel was large and the cleaner had an odd sense of humour, arranging
the bedclothes into a different scupture each day. |
 |
Huge swimming pool in the
hotel - but the water was too cold for anyone to get into it! |
 |
The view from our balcony. |
 |
I like this 'moody' shot.
Its not out of focus but it was taken at night on a slow shutter speed.
This was a hot spa inside a man-made cave which was sort of underneath the
big hotel swimming pool. |

Madeline on the rocks !! |
 |
Very warm but quite windy
- and not many people around. |
 |
One evening on a pub crawl
- Madeline gets involved as usual. |
 |
More of the
hotel swimming pool - several bridges over parts of it. |
 |
4-wheel drive
sfari in Toyota Land Cruisers. Just hacking across the desert. |
 |
Tea and bread
at a Bedouin village |
 |
The only building
around. This is a small wild life museum in the middle of nowhere. |

Madeline standing
in the middle of nowhere !! |

Lunch on the

 |
Sharks bay -
sheltered and good for snorkling and diving. |
 |
