Around the World in 40 Days |

Air tickets were booked through Austravel. We opted for Business Class Round the World tickets on Qantas and British Airways. The rules were: minimum 3 stops, maximum 6 stops, maximum 29,000 miles, no backtracking. Some other tickets were more flexible, but the more flexible you get the more the price increases! For some months before leaving, Madeline was deciding which hotels we should stay at. All details off the web and then plot the hotel positions on a city map (also off the web). All hotels, and even the odd (very odd!!) taxi booked over the web - and everything worked perfectly. For anyone contemplating doing a similar thing, note that 40 days is not long enough to see very much. 5 to 7 days in each place is about all you get. As Nicola was in Sydney we did decide to spend nearly 2 weeks there. Started by flying from Heathrow to Singapore and then changing planes and flying on to Bali. After some time in Bali we then flew to Sydney. After Sydney we moved on to Cairns for about a week, then flew via Sydney to Honolulu. Moving on from Honolulu we flew to Vancouver where we also visited Whistler, and then flew home from Vancouver. |
